Module 4

Information from Course Outline
Module 4, Closes Monday, September 24th

Introduction
Following the background of Modules 1, 2, and 3, we now get into some more detail about kinetics, specifically biotransformation, and then cancer pathology. We will also cover some material we need to get started on the term paper.

Reading from Stein and Brown
Read Chapters 3 (lightly) and 6. Chapter 3 has some chemical details that you do not need to memorize, but the overall process is quite important. .

Learning Goals
  Old Closure

Homework.
There are 25 points for this module's homework. a.) 10 points for the auto-quiz you access through Blackboard, b.) 5 points for a library question or comment, c.) 5 points for the discussion, and d.) 5 points for the message to the instructor.

a.) Access the quiz through Blackboard. A copy of the quiz is found here.

b.) After you work with Submodules 4B and 4E, go to the Rasmuson Library electronically. Do a search for any article on one of your chemicals. Here we are not trying to get information for your paper, at this time, just trying to get you familiar with the searches that are available and find any bugs in the system. Take a few minutes to "play" with each of the searches. Pretend you will order one of the articles through ILL and step through the ordering process, but stop short of ordering it, unless you actually want the article. (I recognize that the off-campus students have a few more buttons to push than on-campus students.) Then write a brief message to the instructor about the Module 4E web pages and if they helped you get started. Were they: too much, too little, confusing, and which parts were which? I give extra credit for constructive criticism. If you have questions about the web pages, email me. If you have other problems, start with the library help resources. Tell me how they worked. Put this in a Word attachment to an email. Label the subject of the email ENVE 652 HW 4.

c.) For your discussion, use your group discussion board. How's the course going so far? Mention at least one thing you like about the course or thing that is going well, and one thing that you don't like or is not going so well. Comment or commiserate with at least the one posting before you (first posting gets a free ride). Those of you who know me realize I won't retaliate if someone has constructive criticism, but if you're bashful, you could send emails to each other, and let someone post a group's response or comment.

d.) For the message to the instructor, you realize that the first three modules were "wide but not deep." This module 4 gets narrower and deeper (as will module 5. After that we will focus on some narrower topics.) What I want to know is, did you feel the treatment in Modules 1 though 3 prepared you to handle Module 4. From your personal background, could you have handled module 4 without the preparation? Was it too much, too little, too trivial or what? Append your contribution on this to the email about the library.
