Selling Pigs in Bavaria

My grandmother told me this story about how things were done in the old country. When a farmer in Bavaria finds another farmer who want to buy his pig, | |
The two farmers each bring a basket and walk until they
find a rail fence. They sit and talk it over and agree on the price of
the pig per kilogram.
|
|
They next take the top rail off the fence, turn it sideways, and balance it on the middle rail. Then they hang a basket on each end of the rail. In one basket the put the pig and in the other basket they place stones. They continue to add stones until the rail just balances. |
