Overview of Module

The syllabus has been updated. This module starts with a catch-up item, non-cancer risk characterization. That item completes your introduction to risk assessment. We now move on to use of a very user friendly computer model which will do a lot of our grunt work and permit us to spend the rest of the course working on some fine points.

Homework.

There is an electronic quiz worth 15 points, a discussion problem worth 5 points and you get up to 5 points for participation, "questions, comments, and criticisms" via the dropbox.

For the discussion: Read the newspaper story, Town baffled by multiple cases of leukemia, by Angie Wagner of AP. You should get the story electronically from:

www.uaf.edu > libraries > Elmer Rasmuson Library > Databases for Alaskans >electric library. (Call 1-800-478-5348 during business hours if you have trouble getting connected, or try 907 474 7482 other hours.) Then do a Boolean search using: leukemia AND fallon. (Fallon is the town that was baffled.)

After reading the story, use your groups to discuss: What questions about the story or insights into the situation might you have now, after studying some risk assessment in EQE 693, that you would not have had before. After you have entered your contribution to the discussion, comment on at least one of the earlier contributions.
