TELNETING TO AURORA FOR A PC (If you are using a MAC, click here.)

If you need to telnet onto aurora from a PC do the following steps
1) Click on Start.
2) Click on Run.
3) In the run box, type telnet aurora.alaska.edu A white box will appear and after a few seconds it will come up with Digital unix (aurora.alaska.edu) (ttyr#)
4) At login type your aurora userid (fsxyz or similar) press return now password will appear.
5) For your first time your password will be your student ID# with no dashes or slashes (Usually your social security number). NOTE as you type nothing will show up, this is how telnet "hides" your password from anyone who might be watching.
6) It will now instruct you that your password has expired and it will ask you for your old password. Type in your Student ID# again
7) From there it will request that you change your password and give you three options:

Pronounceable passwords generated for you (g)
A string of characters generated for you ©
A string of letters generated for you (l) ?
To pick your password (p)
Select which ever one you think is best, personally I recommend p to pick your own password.
Type in the letter that you want and press return
NOTE if you select your own password it must be six letters or more and something NOT found in an English dictionary. Foreign languages are okay, numbers are fine and combinations of letters and symbols are good too. After you have typed it in twice, press enter, and go into aurora main menu.
YOUR AURORA ACCOUNT IS NOW ACTIVE AND READY TO GO
