Submodule 2E

Introduction to Kinetics

Toxicokinetics deals with the absorption, distribution, biotransformation, and excretion of xenobiotics If toxico-dynamics is what the drug does to the body, then toxicokinetics is what the body does to the drug. We will do more with kinetics in a later module, here we just want to focus on some fundamental process regarding exposure and absorption. Besides Stine and Brown pages 15 to 20, there is some good information ToxTutor, sections 9 and 10, in the Introduction and Absorption.

Note that it describes "other exposure route" such as intravenous injection. These other routes are often used in animal experiments, so it is useful to know a little about them and contrast that route with the three main routes.
