Living things fabricate the proteins they need, one amino acid at a time, in a little factory inside the cell called a ribosome. The ribosome follows a template called mRNA which tells it where to put each amino acid. The mRNA is fabricated in the nucleus from a template that is part of the cell's DNA. By controlling the proteins synthesized in the ribosome, the DNA controls the cells structure and function. Here's a little more:
