Sub-module 2B, page 2
A Site Conceptual Exposure Model (SCEM) is a diagram of the sources, pathways and receptors. We will do much more with these later and approach many of the fate and transport issues quantitatively. Here I just want you to overview some terms.
The below are glossary terms from a US Department of Energy model that is no longer available. I took the source and put it on our site, so you can look at the meaning of some of the terms - as they are use in exposure modeling. BTW, when I was trying to resurrect the model, did a Google search using all the terms "department of energy site conceptual exposure model builder," I couldn't find the model, but the page had "images." I suggest you glance at those. Most are indeed SCEMs, but in various configurations. Most are doing what we will be doing, examining the routes of exposure - many routes will be blocked or "closed," so there is not need to compute exposures via the closed route.
The following has the four main divisions and a useful SCEM Introduction. Read the introduction and then read a few of the entries from each of these. Use you BACK button to return.
These terms will be useful later and you can use the lists as a checklist.
